# Photo Shotlist — Cajón Build Documentation

Shots for the in-shop build log. The build-log site (`site/index.html`) reads from this list and the `images/` folder. Visual BOM photography is briefed separately in `visual-bom-brief.md`.

## Stock + acclimation (Phase 0)

1. **Walnut stack on shop bench** — raw 4/4 boards, end-grain visible, bookmark-fold orientation. Wide shot.
2. **Baltic-birch tapa stock** — 3 mm sheet on a flat reference surface with calipers held against the corner showing the 0.118″ thickness reading.
3. **Caliper close-up** — measurement of any over-spec stock (e.g. tapa thickness).

## CNC inlay (Phase 1)

4. **Vacuum hold-down setup** — walnut panel clamped to spoilboard, CNC bit positioned at zero. Wide shot from operator's POV.
5. **Pocket cut in progress** — bit engaged in walnut, dust collection running. Shot from low angle for chip ejection drama.
6. **Pocket finished, panel removed** — top-down with the inlay outline visible, side-lit at low angle so the depth reads.
7. **Insert cut in progress** — same setup but cutting maple stock for the positive insert.
8. **Press-fit dry-fit** — insert held against pocket, no glue, showing the tapered-edge geometry that makes the press-fit work.
9. **Glue + clamp** — wax paper, plywood caul, clamps spread evenly.
10. **Sanded flush** — top-down of the finished inlay panel after drum-sanding to 220 grit.

## Joinery (Phase 2)

11. **Finger-joint jig setup** (V1) — table-saw or CNC fixture.
12. **All finger joints cut** — six panels laid out flat, joints exposed, dry-fitted at one corner.
13. **Dovetail close-up** (V2) — three-quarter angle of one corner showing the hidden half-blind pin pattern.
14. **Miter glue-up** (V4) — band clamps engaged, blue tape across the corners.

## Sound hole (Phase 3)

15. **Hole-saw or CNC pocket in progress** — back panel clamped, cut in progress.
16. **Sound hole finished** — straight-on shot of the back panel with the 4.5″ hole, slight backlighting to read the edge profile.

## Glue blocks + assembly (Phases 4–6)

17. **Glue blocks fitted** — interior shot showing all 8 corner glue blocks before final cap closure.
18. **Box glue-up** — band-clamp octopus around the assembled shell, towels under the clamps to protect the wood, water-droplet wipe-up of squeeze-out.
19. **Squareness check** — framing square in one corner.

## Snare (Phase 5)

20. **Snare mount block** — interior shot through the sound hole showing the angled face oriented toward the tapa.
21. **Tuner pegs** — exterior shot of the back panel with the tuners protruding.
22. **Strings tensioned** — string view from inside through the sound hole.

## Tapa attachment (Phase 7)

23. **Pre-drilled pilot holes** — close-up of one corner of the tapa with pilot holes visible.
24. **Brass screws driven** — three-quarter view showing the slap-zone margin (no screws in upper 4–5″).
25. **First strike test** — hand on tapa, finger about to strike centre.

## Finish (Phase 9)

26. **Tung oil applied** — tapa horizontal, oil being wiped on with a cloth, shop light glinting off the wet surface.
27. **Arm-R-Seal applied** — body horizontal, satin sheen reading on the walnut grain.

## Final + glamour (Phase 10)

28. **Hero shot — finished Standard** — three-quarter angle, on a wood floor, soft side-light from a window or single softbox. This is the build-log site hero.
29. **Player POV** — sitting on the cajón, hands positioned to play, slightly out-of-focus background.
30. **Detail of the slap zone** — extreme close-up of the upper corner of the tapa, bend deformation visible if mid-strike.
31. **Family group shot** (after Compact + Bass also finished) — see `visual-bom-brief.md` for spec.
