# Clarinet V5 Starter Study

## Readiness

This is an L1 starter packet. It captures the first clarinet study structure
and the information required to become a measured packet later. It does not
claim build-ready bore dimensions, tone-hole positions, mouthpiece geometry,
reed setup, or keywork geometry.

## Study Scope

The target instrument family is a simple clarinet-like cylindrical
single-reed woodwind. The starter study assumes a closed-open acoustic model:
the reed and mouthpiece behave as the closed/control end of the resonator and
the effective open end is governed by the bell or first open tone hole. This
is an acoustic-law declaration for planning, not a measured scale design.

## Observed And Reference Assumptions

- Clarinet-family instruments are cylindrical single-reed woodwinds.
- The relevant first-order bore behavior is closed-open quarter-wave behavior.
- A playable design will need measured bore ID, effective length, tone-hole
positions and diameters, mouthpiece/reed compatibility, leak behavior, and a
pitch table before CAD or DXF can become fabrication authority.
- The existing image under `images/` is treated as inspiration or reference
context only. It is not dimensional evidence.

## Unknowns Requiring Measurement

- Bore inside diameter and taper tolerance for the intended body stock.
- Effective acoustic length from reed/mouthpiece setup through bell or vented
  tone holes.
- Tone-hole center positions, diameters, chimney heights, and undercut details.
- Reed strength and mouthpiece facing compatibility.
- Leak performance at corks, joints, pads, and any temporary test closures.
- Pitch table across a stable fingering set under repeatable room conditions.
- Response notes across registers, especially onset, squeak risk, and register
  break behavior.

## Build Authority Boundary

Fabrication authority will come from measured templates, reviewed design
tables, CAD files, or DXF drawings after the first validation loop is complete.
Until then, all dimensions in this repository are either absent, placeholders,
or measurement requests. Generated images, screenshots, prose descriptions,
and unmeasured calculations must not be used as cut-ready layouts or tone-hole
maps.

## Starter Acceptance Target

The next useful milestone is a measured L2 shop-packet candidate with:

- A completed `validation-loop.csv` row set.
- Completed `bore-station-plan.csv`, `tone-hole-authority-plan.csv`,
  `reed-mouthpiece-assumptions.csv`, and `leak-pitch-validation-plan.csv`
  evidence paths.
- A reviewed CAD/DXF register naming the artifacts that control fabrication.
- A pitch and response table tied to reed strength, mouthpiece, bore ID, and
  environmental conditions.
