## Hardwood Blank

Request:

- One or more straight-grained hardwood blanks at least 1.25 x 1.25 x 24.5 in
- Moisture content target: 6-8 percent
- No checks, ring shake, knots, or runout through the bore path
- Species preference: African blackwood if available; cherry, maple, or walnut acceptable for prototype

Questions:

- Is the blank kiln dried?
- Can the supplier provide end-grain photos?
- Is the blank long enough to allow 22.63 in finished bore plus trim allowance?

## Long Bore Tooling

Request:

- 3/4 in aircraft-length drill or gun drill long enough for a 24.5 in blank
- Optional 3/4 in adjustable reamer

Questions:

- What is current lead time?
- What runout tolerance is specified?
- Is the tool suitable for hardwood boring on a lathe setup?

## Finish

Request bore-safe oil or shellac suitable for internal woodwind surfaces. Confirm cure time and contact safety before use.
